PLASKETT GALLERY EXHIBITION 2023
Each year the Plaskett Gallery out of Massey Theatre hosts an exhibition of student work from New Westminster Secondary School. This show welcomes work from students of every grade and level. The only requirement is that you show up for all mandatory meetings, attend our framing workshop and submit work by the deadline!
Invite your friends and family to the gallery opening:

The gallery will be open until 9pm, for any parents who cant make the 3.30-6.30 slot.

FAQ:
Can you submit work even if you're not in an arts related course?
Absolutely! Any student who wishes to submit work to this exhibition is encouraged to do so, regardless of course experience. You will be expected to submit work on time and follow framing directions, but all skill levels are welcome! We welcome art in many forms, so do not feel restricted to only 2D pieces! (Painting, drawing, sculpture, drafting projects, metalwork, woodword, jewellery, mixed media, collage and more!)

What happens if I can't attend the framing workshop?
If there is no way that you can attend the framing workshop, you are encouraged to ask a friend or another student who is framing to frame on your behalf. Teachers will not be framing student work. Please connect with an Art Teacher if alternate framing options need to be arranged.

What if I can't bring my work to the gallery to be displayed/can't bring it back after the show is over?
We have all students walk their finished and framed works of art over to the gallery at an appointed time. Please make arrangements with another member of the exhibition to make sure your piece is submitted and accounted for.

Can I frame my work myself on my own time?
You do have the option to frame your work yourself if you have a specific frame in mind. If you frame your work on your own, you still need to make sure you've completed the Artist Information cards document that will be circulating on framing day, but can otherwise leave after that. Please make sure your frame has a hanging device (wire, hooks, etc.) on the back.

Is there a cost to sign up? Do students need to buy frames?
Our arts department has its own set of frames that were donated several years ago. Students can use these frames (for free!) to frame their work. Students do not need to pay to use these frames - as they will be returned after the show is over for future student use. However, we do have a limited total of frames, so some compromise on size/amount of work per student may occur.

How many pieces can students submit?
This depends on the total number of students signed up. If a limited number of students have signed up to exhibit, we may be able to exhibit multiple pieces for each artist. If many students are signed up, it will be limited to one piece per student. Some exceptions can be made if works differ in format (ie. one sculpture piece and one framed painting).

Sign up for the Plaskett Gallery Exhibition so that we have your contact information at this link: Plaskett Gallery Sign Up Sheet - Jan 2-23
This helps us get in touch if deadlines change, work needs to be picked up, etc.
Students who need framed work must attend the framing workshops on January 11th, 2023. You will not be able to frame work during class time, as teachers are busy teaching their courses. If you are submitting a sculpture or 3D piece that does not need framing, you must still attend this workshop to complete the NAME CARD document and ensure your piece has a plinth to stand on. Please plan for a minimum of 1 hour.
All students must drop off their work at the Plaskett Gallery to be displayed by the curator. Please come to Room 1001 right after the bell at 3:05 so that we can walk the pieces over together and ensure that all pieces are accounted for. No work will be accepted after JANUARY 11, 2023.
Bring your friends, family and biggest fans to the gallery opening reception on January 17th, 2023! There will be speeches at 5:30pm, snacks and lots of buzz around all of your hard work. Gallery open until 9pm today only.
Please collect your work and take it home with you. The gallery needs their space emptied so that their next show can be displayed. If you are unable to attend on this date, please alert one of the art teachers/arrange for a friend to pick up your work. Alternatively, you can pick up your work the following day. We encourage students to collect their art as soon as possible so we can use the frames for our next exhibitions!
*Unclaimed work may be recycled after June 2023, so please collect it as soon as possible!
