Art for Climate

Led & adjudicated by Ms. Chan, Ms. Le Blanc and Mr. Randall

FINAL SUBMISSION DEADLINE: DECEMBER 1st, 2024

What is it?

  • An art competition to design and create a piece of 2D artwork that connects, explores and educates audiences on New West City's commitment to Climate Action. See the PDF at the top of this page for details on the 7 Bold Steps to Climate Action for specific theme considerations.

  • All work will touch on the theme of Climate Action while also considering our guiding principles of "Land, sea and air" for our school space

  • Your work can be a piece of protest, inspiration, education and/or contemplation. It does not need to contain text or literal examples of the 7 Bold Steps - it can be a visual interpretation of the theme.

  • We are accepting two types of submissions:

    A. Final sketch submissions to enter for a chance to create a large-scale mural (all materials provided). The sketch idea (70-100% completed) is due December 1st, but the final mural will be due in MAY 1st 2025. You do not complete a giant mural until you are selected as a finalist - just bring your amazing designs and evidence of your painting/drawing skills to take on this project.

    B. Fully realized/complete designs as digital submissions or smaller works that can be photographed/printed as vinyls and installed by DECEMBER 10th 2024. Your December submissions for this option need to be 90-100% fully realized so we can submit final images to the printer before December 10th.

What can you get?

  • ART MATERIALS! Art materials and supplies ($$$) for 5 winners as a gift for your hard work

  • LEGACY! Finalists' work will be printed, mounted and displayed throughout NWSS.

When's it due?

  • Submit a sketchbook/draft of your planning leading up to the final project submission by November 20th. It is strongly advised that you check in with Ms. Chan, Ms. Le Blanc or Mr. Randall for guidance and feedback ahead of submission deadline.

  • Completion of final piece for submission is December 1st, 2024
